• The Temple of Awareness by: Utah Builders Community from: Salt Lake City, UT year: 2017

Temples offer environments for us to immerse ourselves into an unworldly place of harmony and peace. The Temple of Awareness is an organic form, similar to a pine cone. Seen from above, it evokes aspects of a bloomed lotus. The Temple is a 13-sided dome structure that is 35 ft. in diameter at the base. It has seven levels that reach 35 ft. high, each level with projecting decorative wings encircling it. From a distance, the wings create a feeling of lightness, while the dome as a whole conveys a rooted presence. Participants enter the Temple through one of thirteen sizable inverted “V” openings. Inside is a welcoming, vaulted, airy interior defined by a series of shrinking, concentric circles soaring overhead. The dome top is left uncovered to allow for the participant’s connection with the cosmos. The open interior design incorporates hundreds of shelves lining every wall, as well as several freestanding sub-altars that provide many niches and ledges for objects of remembrance. • Diver UP by Victor Spinelli and Solar Powered Mutant Vehicle

The sculpture will be a topless women holding an old diving helmet over her head.

She will be made several interlocking fiberglass pieces to create the seamless shape of her body and helmet. The interior superstructure will be reinforced with up-cyled and new mild carbon steel. Two I-Beams will anchor the structure to the ground.

The interior will have many elements of pipes, dials, compasses and reused marine gadgets as if you are entering a submarine. Information about our relation to the seas, and how we can help our oceans, will be placed throughout.

She will seem to be emerging from the Playa floor from her torso like a mirage.
• Temple Project from: Petaluma, CA year: 2016

The temple this year will be built in the tradition of David Best temples, but with a significant departure from his usual style – this temple will be hand-built without CNC cut materials. It will be extremely ornate, with a large interior altar and a large chandelier. This temple will take on an ancient air, patina’ed with organic water-based stains, and look as if it were built hundreds of years in the past.

There will be 8 altars placed around the courtyard, which is walled off to create a protected, quiet, respectful space. The interactivity will be the usual function of the Burning Man temple: it will be a place for the community to come and express their emotions, reflect on the losses of friends and family members, and celebrate the lives of people around them. The temple will be built with the consideration of the community, with adequate space to accommodate the needs of people in the temple and the surrounding courtyard for reflection, safety and privacy. • Life Cube Project Burn from: Dobbs Ferry, NY year: 2015

The Life Cube is an engaging, interactive, art-driven environment for the expression of goals, dreams, wishes, and aspirations. Citizens of BRC inscribe their thoughts on message-walls and on wish-stick postcards deposited into the Cube. In the spectacular finale, the Cube and all the wishes are burned and sent out together into the universe. The Life Cube features a 24’ high architectural design with stairs, pillars, mirrors, posts, and high places inviting Playa visitors to walk through, climb, hang-out, touch and interact. The community can express themselves on write-boards, contribute to the tapestry wall, and watch painters creating collaborative murals all week long. At night the cube takes on new life with spectacular lighting that enhances the drama: wall-washers, spots, strobes, lasers, and psychedelic lights add brilliant color that changes interior rooms and spaces, sending rainbows across the dark Playa landscape and illuminating the art and people around the Cube. • The Monumental Mammoth at Dawn
by: Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient Tahoe Mack, Mentor and Protector of Tule Springs Representative Sherri Grotheer, and artists Luis Varela-Rico and Dana Albany
from: Las Vegas, NV
year: 2019

The Monumental Mammoth project will depict a life-sized steel Colombian mammoth skeleton collaged with metal found objects to tell the story of Tule Spring National Monument’s past, present, and future. The sheer size and struggle of the mammoth’s stance is a representation of the universal call to protect what the earth has given humanity. As a community, we are called together to protect the fossils of our past and the education of our future. Dana Albany and Luis Varela-Rico are pulling together the sleek elements of the interior steel structure and the intricate weavings to represents the distinctive community that is Las Vegas. It also tells the story of a rising feminine power, and shows all women of any age that anything is possible!
• Seed of Dreams Crew

Seed of Dreams is a 15′ tall sculpture of a human head, eyes closed, in dream state. Geometric perforations resonate outward from the forehead, emitting light from an internal source by night and reflecting the golden interior by day. An opening allows participants to enter inside of the sculpture to discover a wondrous grotto with shimmering golden walls and ledges to sit upon. A magnificent geometric light in the shape of the pineal gland hangs from the center of the head illuminating the sculpture at night. A large open book of empty lined paper with pens invites participants to record their dreams and reflect on their thoughts. Seed of Dreams provides a place for participants to seek refuge, meditate, or connect with their intuition.
• Fractaled Mind by Kamp Kerfuffle

Fractaled Mind is an 11′ tall interactive sculpture of repeating shapes in a fractal pattern. The sculpture explores shape, color, light, and the language of the universe. It creates a space to climb, explore, gather, and rest. The predictable and repeating pattern of boxes is colored on each side in a gradient pattern. By night, lighting that cycles through the color spectrum augments the color and shadow on the structure creating an ever-changing form that challenges the predictability of the fractal pattern. Climbing the structure reveals an interior space to rest and gather. The space is filled with monochromatic light that contrasts the constantly changing light of the playa.
A mysterious rural train station appearing in the Black Rock Desert has become unstuck in time, haunted by ghost trains heard but not seen. Built in the mid-1930s to serve Black Rock City and the communities scattered throughout the vast Black Rock Desert, the station is unstable and oscillating through various moments over the last 150 years and beyond, with an ever-shifting interior life, and a subtle narrative that cuts against conventional historical themes.
• RadiaLumia by: FoldHaus Collective from: Oakland, CA year: 2018

RadiaLumia is a geodesic sphere, five-stories tall, and covered with a breathing skin of origami shells and radiant spikes. Its shape nods to radiolaria, a tiny protozoa with intricate mineral skeletons that covered the desert thousands of years ago, when it was once the sea floor. From the outside, you can see the folds of the shells, made of corrugated polypropylene and illuminated with over 100,000 LEDs. Inside the sphere, a platform offers a place for people to retreat and look out to the surrounding landscape. The shells open and close in response to visitors’ presence, constantly in motion, sometimes protecting the intimate interior of the sphere, sometimes revealing a glimpse of its heart.
BEBOT is a cute, friendly, thirty-five foot tall steel robot that invites Burners to climb up into its interior and ‘BE My Eyes’, ‘BE My Ears’, ‘BE My Voice’, ‘BE My Beating Heart’. An endearing comic book robot built on a huge scale but undeniably cute, this installation is intended primarily for play but conceptually it explores aspects of robotics that should concern us. ‘Cuteness’ is already the dominant aesthetic of digital culture and features heavily in robot design. Cuteness triggers in us a desire to approach and engage with the cute object. Emotional engineering of robots lowers our barriers to privacy and clouds our perception of risk. BEBOT’s forked devil’s tail suggests that all may not be as innocent and harmless as it seems. Contact: andrea@hylemo.com

 • BEBOT by: Andrea Greenlees, Andy Tibbetts and Josh Haywood from: Surbiton, Surrey, England year: 2018

 • Temple Burn from: Petaluma, CA year: 2016

• Life Cube Project from: Dobbs Ferry, NY year: 2015

At night the cube takes on new life with spectacular lighting that enhances the drama: wall-washers, spots, strobes, lasers, and psychedelic lights add brilliant color that changes interior rooms and spaces, sending rainbows across the dark Playa landscape and illuminating the art and people around the Cube. from: Las Vegas, NV

• Andromeda Reimagined
by: Playa Muses
from: Bay Area, CA
year: 2019

In myth, Andromeda earned the god’s respect by her earthly deeds and was rewarded with celestial immortality as a constellation. We reimagine the Andromeda Myth, evolving it from a classic male hero focus to a strong feminine and collaborative paradigm.

This art piece brings Andromeda back to earth, and asks, should we aspire to immortality? Can our fleeting actions ultimately stack up to monumental outcomes?

The piece, built by first-time playa artists, consists of a 26 ft spire, with ornate star-patterned walls. It shines like a Moroccan lantern at night, and beckons viewers to rest in a plush interior, seek shade, duck a windstorm. It incubates change. People come to reflect on their course, and to feel inspired to set their sights higher.
by: Dusty Nation, Lead Artist Cameron Anne Mason
from: Seattle, WA
year: 2019

In a temporary city in a constant state of metamorphosis, Chroma Commons creates a sense of place using ephemeral materials: Silk, color, and air. Beckoning from across the playa, a circle of banners dyed along the color wheel creates a kinetic silken environment and provides ever-changing views of the city from a dynamic interior.

In the center is the Prism, a triangular tower with a sound installation using noise-reducing technology to create a sanctuary of quiet. Benches provide places to gather, rest, and commune with other Burners.

At night, the spectrum of color expands. Images are rear-projected onto a band of acrylic panels at the top of the Prism, color-changing lighting bathes the banners, and ambient light glows around seating.

• Temple Burn from: Petaluma, CA year: 2016

• Life Cube Project from: Dobbs Ferry, NY year: 2015

• The Monumental Mammoth
by: Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient Tahoe Mack, Mentor and Protector of Tule Springs Representative Sherri Grotheer, and artists Luis Varela-Rico and Dana Albany
from: Las Vegas, NV
