• Church Trap by: Rebekah Waites from: lakewood, CA year: 2013

Church Trap is an interactive wonderland for the religiously rebellious. A large-scale decaying church, tipped on its axis like a box trap. Not only does it push participants to ask the question “why”, but it also invites the daring to take control of the many interactive features. A tricked out church organ, part central LED nervous system, part beautifully wicked installation art. It is your God. Or, are you its? Whatever the answer, play at your own risk. Feeling even more daring? Why not put your spiritual and religious beliefs to test by playing The Machine – an 80’s style upright video game. It might want to play “pulpit”, but it’s all “confessional”. URL: http://www.churchtrap.com Contact: rebekart@yahoo.com

 • The Little Schoolhouse of Hope and Fear by: Gratis from: Vista, CA year: 2018

If all you had was the rough detritus of war, the cheap rubble of constant calamity, what would you build with it? A bunker, a church, or a school? Would you create a place of hope or fear? Of the past or for the future?

Hope rising up from a violent and chaotic past, Fear transformed into building blocks: found metal, often riddled by gunre, torn by the wind and baked by the desert sun are incorporated into this replica of the traditional “little red schoolhouse.” The Little Schoolhouse of Hope and Fear stands on the playa as a beacon to those who wish to teach a better way for the future, or to those ready to learn from the failures of the past. • Secretly Abandoned Spaces
by: Valerie Mallory, Mikell Haynes and They Collective
from: Oakland, CA
year: 2022

Every abandoned space retains a feeling of what it once was. Abandoned buildings retain a beauty of that which has been forsaken; it’s the loveliness of disintegration. This piece is about the beauty of loss and decay of a building, a community or of a loved one. Elegance emerges from loss as the world takes back its own. The house becomes a church of ideas that have died and long passed. The cast figures upon the staircase is a theatre, or a play. The interplay of figures tell their own stories. The figures will also be ornate as structures of antiquity. Secretly Abandoned Spaces in a museum of stories that have been lost in antiquity.
• This photo is upside down. This is how Gaudi figured out how to design La Sagrada Familia, by hanging lead weights by string to create perfect curves for the supports...Wikipedia:...Gaudí spent ten years working on studies for the design of La Sagrada Família and developing a new method of structural calculation based on a model built with cords and small sacks of lead shot. The outline of the church was traced on a wooden board (1:10 scale), which was then placed on the ceiling of a small house next to the work site. Cords were hung from the points where columns were to be placed. The sacks of pellets, weighing one ten-thousandth part of the weight the arches would to support, were hung from each catenaric arch formed by the cords. Photographs were then taken of the resulting model from various angles. When the photographs were turned upside-down, the lines of tension formed by the cords and weights revealed the lines of pressure of the compressed structure. This is one of the ways that Gaudí obtained natural forms in his work...The same expressive power of Gaudí's monumental works exists in his oddly graceful chairs and tables. Gaudí's architecture is a total integration of materials, processes and poetics. His approach to furniture design exceeded structural expression and continued with the overall architectural idea.[20]..en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoni_Gaud%c3%ad ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoni_Gaud%c3%ad )
