• This serene and introspective image captures the essence of the end of fall along the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands region. Leaves gently float by, creating marvelous textures and ripples on the water's surface, while a stone rests in the foreground. As the seasons change, the river symbolizes a connection to nature and time, washing things away and rejuvenating the soul. The tranquility and peace of this scene invite reflection and contemplation on the passage of time and life's natural cycles.
• The bulk carrier, Federal Nakagawa, gracefully glides through the calm waters of the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York, maintaining an unusually slow pace as it passes by the historic and majestic Boldt Castle. This gentle speed ensures minimal wake, preserving the serenity of the surrounding landscape. Nestled among the lush scenery of the Thousand Islands, this tranquil passage highlights the harmonious coexistence of modern maritime transport with the natural beauty and historic architecture found in the region. The scene captures a moment where the Federal Nakagawa, a symbol of modern commerce, peacefully shares the stage with the timeless charm of Boldt Castle and its idyllic surroundings.
The Man’s Army is 100 androgynous life-sized human figures standing in a 10×10 grid. Each figure has skin of white wax and a unique 3D printed face created by a point-cloud scan of real people. At night an internal LED creates a glow emanating from within. The body and face create a blank canvas for expression. Throughout the week the figures are customized, culminating in a transformative burn. The piece is a visual metaphor contemplating conformity through shared non-conformity. People, from a distance may appear homogeneous but once among them you see their individuality. Through shared experience burners are altered and stretched by the thoughts and intentions of one another and then transformed through an expression of impermanence.
• Come-Million! by: Amit Weissenstern from: Tel-Aviv, IS year: 2018 Come-Million is a giant colorful chameleon that shines up beautifully when playing interactively with her friends! Come-Million’s skin is made of hundreds of tiles carrying thousands little lights. Their colors change in reaction to the participants’ behavior inside, sensed through its pumping heart. A playful collaboration is demonstrated through the interaction between the people inside the chameleon, and passerby. Inside the chameleon there will be an interactive game that the visitors and the chameleon will participate in using a set of handles of different colors. Citizens of Black Rock City will sense and understand Come-Million’s through its signals and listen to her heart – to help her shine with millions of colors. My Burning Man 2018 Photos:
from: Los Angeles, CA
year: 2019

 • Mazu Goddess of the Empty Sea Burn from: New Xishi City, Taiwan year: 2015

You walk through the dust and heat of day, beyond the heart of the city, and from the haze before you emerges a shape that is both plant and place, flower and temple, both open and contained. No fence keeps you out, but one hundred and eight lanterns mark out the space, like a fairy ring in the forest, like the hundred and eight beads of the Buddhist rosary.

Through the archway you walk. Up the long, low steps, the muffled sound of your tread meets the familiar clunk of wood; the music of a seaside pier rises from the dust, invoking the sense of some long lost place where water once stretched out to kiss the horizon. Below, the improbable sounds of water and the briefest hints of ocean blue tickle the imagination. From above, eight dragons of fire and steel peer down, watching you, or look out into the distance, waiting.

And again, the thing that is neither quite plant nor place seems to hover at the edge of defining, the green rooftop like a lily pad, the great lotus rising up out of the dried mud and the memory of water, each petal big enough to sleep in, open out from this improbable tree, this pillar of memories.

Inside, past and present blend and dance together. Old rites and new technologies bring fresh form to venerable, ancient practices. There is hidden circuitry here: casting the moon blocks reveals the will of the gods in a panoply of color and light. The breath of dragons explodes outward in answer to prayer. The goddess herself has been known to appear, if the moment is right.

You leave the temple, clutching message and map, and the sound of music finds your ears. Drums, gongs and shouting voices emerge from fantastical shapes, finned and spiny, nautilus-headed dancers and demons with a thousand eyes walk out of the dust, beckoning you to join them. You wonder, for a moment, if you are in fact in a desert, or in the memories of an ancient ocean, seeing the dreams of the sea

by: Arturo Gonzalez
from: Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico
year: 2019

Is extinction forever? This work seeks to generate a reflection on the increasingly possible cloning of extinct species. Since the origin of life, evolution has never returned to a vanished species. However, human science is about to break this rule. Is it ethical and moral to play gods? Through scientific reproductions of a neanderthal and a saber-toothed tiger that emerge from the earth (extinction) to cross a DNA helix and reach our present with a paleo-reconstruction where the visitor can interact and then go through a series of circles that forms the geometry of life arrive at a mythical alebrije that represents the transmutation of our matter.
• A winding road curves gracefully through a scenic landscape, leading the eye towards a vibrant and breathtaking rainbow. The colors of the rainbow arc through the sky, casting an air of magic and wonder over the scene. The blend of natural beauty and the open road evokes a sense of freedom, exploration, and boundless possibilities.
• Forest of Dreams by Laura Kimpton and crew

The Forest of Dreams is formed of 40 trees, 10ft tall, all made of steel. The trees are to be arranged on a square grid, 10 trees by 10 trees, placed in concentrically smaller grids and culminating in an open area at the center. The forest will be bathed in dancing LED lights of multitude of colors shining through the shaped cutouts in the trees. Citizens of Black Rock Desert will be able to see the forest for miles. My hope is the forest will be placed in deep playa past the temple so it will be dark enough for the forest to shine. Our hope is for participants will interact with the forest in the most magical way. As one will enter the forest, the will find a world of colorful beauty where one can let go, dance, be silly, discover a new more playful self. As an installation artist my goal is to create art that is experiential. With the Forest, participants not only physically walk through and explore the piece, they get lost in the space and become one with the forest.
• Sysimetsä by: LaynaJoy Rivas & Eva Reiska with The Landing Ravens Art Collective from: Ravens Landing, Clearlake Oaks, CA year: 2017

Beauty lies within the Burnt Forest. Sysimetsä is a memorial for the fires that destroyed Lake County, as well as a beloved art space by the name of Ravens Landing back in 2015. Participants walk through a burnt forest with trees that stand erected from the playa with huge ravens perched upon their branches. Pieces of burnt metal and scraps are hand crafted instruments of sound, bringing the forest back to life through interactivity. The sound sensitive lighting will dance to the beat of our hearts. This place is a temple for the old and new, a sacred piece of nature that is awoken to hold space to give thanks to what’s been given and what’s been taken. In the belief that change is the only constant grace given to Humankind, to embrace it in all ways is the only way to brighten our evolution. The philosophy of Sysimetsä is to Experience, Let Go, Accept, Be Thankful, and Recreate the world you want to live in.

• This aerial photograph captures the winding Thousand Islands Parkway as it weaves its way through a breathtaking fall landscape. The crisp autumn colors paint a mesmerizing palette of red, orange, and yellow foliage, creating a striking contrast against the deep blue of the St. Lawrence River. • Mazu Goddess of the Empty Sea from: New Xishi City, Taiwan year: 2015

You wonder, for a moment, if you are in fact in a desert, or in the memories of an ancient ocean, seeing the dreams of the sea floor

 • In this striking photograph by Duncan Rawlinson, an almost saddle-like formation in a giant sand dune is captured as the wind and sand are blown towards the camera. The scene showcases the raw beauty and power of nature as it sculpts the landscape through wind and erosion. The fluid motion of the sands forms waves, patterns, and ripples, creating an ever-changing canvas of light, shadows, and contrasts. The sunlit dune set against a backdrop of mountainous vistas gives the image a sense of depth and drama, while the delicate interplay of light and shadows highlights the unique textures of the sand. • Gadfly, a beautifully restored 1931 34' Hutchinson Sedan Commuter, glides through the shimmering waters of the Thousand Islands in Ontario, Canada. Built in Alexandria Bay by Hutchinson Boat Works, this antique boat spent her early years exploring the 1000 Islands before relocating to Michigan. In 1994, Gadfly returned to the River when she was generously donated to the Antique Boat Museum. Since then, she has provided countless museum patrons with the unique opportunity to experience the River's beauty in the secure comfort and style that is the embodiment of her design. A favorite vessel for both day trips and longer excursions to Ottawa and Montreal, Gadfly's spacious accommodations include a snug cabin and a large open aft cockpit, making her a superb craft for all types of voyages.
THEM invites participants to enter it and identify with the art-making the sculpture into THEM. Through community interactions and the people around us can the sculpture be transformed into new faces. At night those new faces are then expressed upon the playa in shadows created from an internal light. To explore the different personalities of “THEM”, one must generate commitment as part of the change, and this participation can be done alone but it is much easier to do with the support of a community. The sculpture will act as a meeting point for observation, contemplation, and self-discovery.

Unbound is a Neoclassical Library clad in deconstructed books representing human creativity and changing thought. Saunter around the building to discover the layered pages of disparate words, illustrations and languages. Surprises fill the walls with secret doors, niches, hidden dioramas, bookshelves and a card cabinet containing objects for the taking. Walk up a few stairs and the floral floors direct you through one of three portals representing the body, the mind, and the soul. Reflect in the mirrored shards that flicker on the walls and represent both the loss of physical information while reflecting back you, the ultimate the creator of the information. Rest inside and listen to readings from others from around the world. Contemplate.

The Upward Spirals of Love is an immersive art installation created to showcase the transformative power of love. During the day, the 8 foot iridescent faceted heart projects multi-colored neon green and pink shadows on the playa floor, and at dusk it lights up and comes to life with custom programmed LED patterns that run up the spiral to the heart, giving an effect of an Upward Spiral of Love. As a gift from Nick to his beloved Brigitte, this piece creates a space for people to feel safe, to heal, to connect and to fall in love through the universal language of love. Each of the 5 Love Languages is illuminated in a circle of 5 steel hearts that the visitor can step onto, identifying the type of love that makes them feel the most loved.

 • Cloud Swing by: Lindsay Glatz with Curious Form from: New Orleans, LA year: 2019 Cloud Swing consists of swings suspended from a glowing cloud. Through utilizing a ubiquitous symbol of childhood, the work remains accessible and unassuming. The swing itself generates feelings of nostalgia and simplicity. While the swings remain unoccupied, the cloud above emanates a steady white glow of light, appearing to float within the darkness. The light shines downward highlighting the empty swing in an invitation for passersby to enjoy its delights. Once the swing is occupied the transformation and color begins to glow. A Pauper’s Ballroom is what our parents tell us when walking down to a beach, a clearing or any other beautiful place in nature. A palace free to all. A pauper’s ballroom. The piece is a grand staircase with no second floor, framed by four towers. The way to the ballroom is to climb the staircase, turn around and then descend. The ballroom is the playa but best appreciated through the descent of a staircase, giving you the trappings of grandeur, while being merely pretense to the actual beauty of the free, natural space of the playa. “Nothing” is the absence of substance. It is the void, the infinite unknown.
“Fragments” by French artist Marc Ippon de Ronda has been designed for Burning Man 2019. Where the artist turns an old Black Rock Desert legend into reality. The installation plays with the illusion of appearances and our ever-changing perception of self and surroundings, a recurring theme in de Ronda’s work. During the day Burners see their reflections evolve inside the fragmented mirrors as they move through the sand winds and find shelter in its corners and covers. At sunrise and sunset the installation invites for meditation. Burners ascend and descend the central staircase experiencing a golden hue of warmth from the sun. At night, “Fragments” shifts again into abstract LED surfaces creating a magical apparition in the desert darkness. URL: https://fragmentsart.org Contact: contact@fragmentsart.org

Mariposita, meaning “little butterfly”, represents rebirth – of coming out of a shell, escaping confinement, and breaking through to a more meaningful and enlightening existence or experience. The act of emerging, however, is usually not so simple, and the complexity experienced both within the individual viewer and expressed externally as a communal experience, will become the atmosphere surrounding this piece. A rebirth requires power, curiosity, determination, and support, all characteristics that lead to revival and restoration. • Baba Yaga’s House by: Jessi Sprocket Janusee and Baba Yaga’s Book Club from: Reno, NV year: 2018
The house of Baba Yaga will rise from the playa straddling it’s mechanical chicken legs. The crone’s house will be poised to run at the slightest provocation. Ascend her staircases to test the old witch if you dare. Are you able to walk through the veil of mortality into the space where the seer dwells? If you are strong of will, feeling bold and willing to show vulnerability she may allow you to venture within her sanctum.
• Galaxia by: Mamou-Mani from: London year: 2018

Galaxia celebrates hope in the unknown, stars, planets, black holes, the movement uniting us in swirling galaxies of dreams. A superior form of Gaia in Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, Galaxia is the ultimate network, the fabric of the universe connecting living beings into one entity. Galaxia is shaped of 20 timber trusses converging as a spiral towards one point in the sky. The triangular trusses form different paths towards a central space holding a giant 3D printed mandala, the heart of Galaxia. The timber modules start large enough to hold small alcoves in which people can write in peace. As participants walk through the path, the timber modules lift up and become thinner and thinner towards the sky as people reach the central mandala.
